This 8-12-week program (flexible) is a challenging opportunity to work on collaborative research projects under the supervision of major names in Sports Medicine and Sports Research.

• INJURY SURVEILLANCE – documenting and follow-up with injuries and technology
• EPIDEMIOLOGY – finding the most common sports injuries
• SPORTS MEDICINE – injuries in sports, diagnoses and treatment with Hospital for Special Surgery
• COMPUTER SCIENCE/ DATABASE MANAGEMENT – databases, intro to programming & data analysis at the NYU Steinhardt School of Education and Global Institute of Public Health
• STATISTICS – Data analysis with NYU Schools
• SOFTWARE ENGINEERING - collaborative work with the RISE and current software development

RISE's Summer Research Internship is a program designed to introduce professional healthcare students to preventive medicine, public health, and the principles of applied epidemiology, all under the mentorship of the nation's top Sports Researchers.

Medical Student Summer Research Fellowships at HSS

We also offer the opportunity to apply for one of the most coveted Medical Student Summer Research Fellowships at HSS for first year medical students, nationally, interested in Clinical Sports Medicine with Dr Answorth A. Allen at Hospital for Special Surgery. Students who have completed their first year at an LCME accredited US medical school are eligible to apply.

Are you interested in Data Science and Applied Statistics?

The Research Institute of Sport & Exercise Inc of Hospital for Special Surgery is offering a part-time Data Science and Applied Statistics Semesterly Internship for students looking to further their careers in Data Science. This internship, which spans 20 weeks (each Fall & Spring) and 10 weeks (Summer), will provide the students with rigorous training in statistical research techniques and their applications in sport injury analysis and prevention. Accepted students will have the opportunity to undertake challenging assignments while enhancing their technical, communication and leadership skills. This program is an excellent opportunity to work on collaborative projects under the supervision of major names in Sports Medicine and Research.

Public Health, Data Science & Applied Statistics Students?

This semesterly part-time internship, happening or appearing once per academic semester, is for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Public Health, or Applied Statistics Program or a similar academic curriculum, interested in furthering their careers in Applied Statistics and Data Science.

Applied Data Science

• Build and enhance the predictive power of existing models.
• Develop state of the art predictive models that help achieve business targets.
• Partner with product, sponsors, institutions and other areas to implement predictive models.
• Evaluate new internal and external data elements and technologies to be included in predictive models.
• Develop and implement new multivariate methodologies to solve practical applicable problems.
• Build databases to facilitate robust analyses.
• Provide insight into leading analytic practices and produce new and creative analytic solutions.
• Find patterns and insights in unstructured data.

Program Eligibility

• All candidates must be able to work remotely.
• Undergraduate applicants, must be enrolled in a Public Health, Applied Statistics Program or a similar academic curriculum, as a sophomore, junior or senior at the time of application.
• Graduate candidates in Data Science and Applied Statistics, must be enrolled in a Master’s Degree or PhD in Public Health, Public Policy, Statistics, or similar program.
• Candidates must have previous knowledge in using statistical software such as SPSS, Stata, SAS, R.
