Dr. Victor Lopez gives a Medical Student Roundtable for Mentors in Medicine at Adelphi University 2024

We were proud to have Dr. Victor Lopez Jr., DO, Founder & Executive Director of the Rugby Research & Injury Prevention Group (RRIPG) and RISE Sports Medicine Institute, serve as moderator for the Medical Student Roundtable at the 2024 Mentoring in Medicine Conference, held at Adelphi University on March 16.

This roundtable brought together a dynamic panel of medical students, interns, and residents representing leading institutions across the country. Speakers shared their diverse journeys into healthcare, offering practical insights, personal reflections, and words of encouragement to aspiring pre-health students from Adelphi’s STEP/CSTEP programs and local high schools.

Medical Student Roundtable

Featured panelists included:

Dr. Lopez led an engaging discussion on mentorship, medical school preparation, and strategies to overcome barriers faced by students from underrepresented communities. This event aligned with RISE and RRIPG’s mission to expand access, equity, and opportunity in the healthcare pipeline.

We also thank Andrew Morrison, President and CEO of Mentoring in Medicine, for his leadership and support in making this program a success. As one of MIM’s original visionaries, Mr. Morrison’s dedication to outreach, innovation, and program development has helped inspire thousands of students across the country.

As Dr. Lynne Holden, President of Mentoring in Medicine, emphasized:

“Students need to be exposed early to the wonderful opportunities provided by a biomedical career. Mentoring in Medicine teaches students the joy of learning science while helping them to build a strong academic foundation and have fun.”

We’re honored to support this mission and continue working toward a more diverse and prepared generation of future healthcare professionals.
